For the most highly sensitive individuals I recommend ONLY using the standard HealthMate. Austin Air is now making them with Coconut Carbon filters. A true work horse, it scrubs 1500 square feet every few minutes and is highly effective in removing harmful chemicals, dust, pollen, dander, soot, smoke and everyday pollutants. This is the most highly recommended air filter on the market for people with MCS. The unit's body is metal (no plastic or vinyl outgassing) and the filters are placed last in the airflow, so that it filters out any machine and ozone outgassing. The HealthMate Plus

For individuals who are somewhat chemically sensitive, but not too highly sensitive, I recommend the HealthMate Plus. This unit offers the same features as the regular HealthMate plus the carbon filters have been impregnated with potassium iodide (Superblend) giving it the ability to scrub more chemicals out of the air. The only problem is that some highly sensitive individuals have been known to react to the potassium iodide. The benefit of Superblend is that it's more efficient at removing harmful chemicals. This is my top recommended air filter for the work place for those who are not extremely chemically sensitive.

The HealthMate Jr.

For smaller rooms, like the bedroom or a small office, I recommend the HealthMate Jr. It has the same abilities to protect you as the regular HealthMate only it's a smaller unit, lighter and does not come with wheels (they can be added by Austin Air for $35.00). I know people who use this unit when traveling in their truck. They purchased a DC cigarette lighter to AC converter at Radio Shack and tell me it works great. I personally use this when taking trips where I will stay in a place that doesn't have an Austin Air (although most of my friends and family own them now). I saved the shipping box to take it along when I fly, too. The airlines have always checked it in as another suitcase when I explain what it is. It's great in hotel rooms.
